Film Trucks / "INTO THE WILD SUNDAY"

"INTO THE WILD SUNDAY" is a yearly initiative by Jérémie Daclin - the longtime Lyon, France and worldwide activist, formerly via Cliché Skateboards and currently via Film Trucks (a brand already strong of quite the video output, always involving la crème de la crème of locals everywhere and on both ends of the camera, that is). A secret spot somewhere in the South of Lyon, a lengthy list of associates that isn't just for business calls and boom: there goes the recipe for an invite-only weekend treating a selection of the most active shops in their area with some chill vibes in the French countryside, also making for an opportunity to discuss around some solid skateboarding and sustainance as opposed to through the untangible frequencies of pseudo-connected technology.

Even though, last year, this event that's only really one on the human level (which just so happens to be the one that matters) couldn't take place due to some wet weather, this time it did occur, as this video recap by Vendôme O.G. Hugo Bernatas and photo gallery by renowned curve appreciator Loïc Benoit both testify.

And the shops who earned their rights to this summer weekend this time were the whole ABS Skateshop family (Lyon, Grenoble, Annecy), but also L'Appart Skateshop from Saint-Etienne and of course, Wall Street. Just as many operations that, to this day, remain crucial to their respective local scenes and are thus worthy of your support!

Morgan Campbell "ABOUT NINE" / Josh Roberts / PREMIERE

You'd better remember Josh Roberts - the Perth, Australia-based filmer behind, most notably, the Domingo series, and once head operator for the Magenta Skateboards classic: "Crossing The Perth Dimension" - because today, he's LIVE again (we've featured some other works of his before) with a new piece, and an exclusive one this time. "ABOUT NINE" tells the story of local legend Morgan Campbell (also interviewed earlier regarding his visual project: "DEJA GLU") regularly waking up at dawn to meet up with Josh at the local bowl 'around nine' (hence the title), and get footage in peace with the whole place to themselves. The VX-1000 by-product of those morning skates, that's exactly what this edit is - and also, an explosive two-minute uppercut of good taste, sunshine, creativity and mellow vibes. Also featured: Nick Maughn, Daniel Luxford, Lewis Rodan and Louie Dodd as guests, to complete the whole picture with homie presence! Just what your legs could use to get kicking as early as coffee time.

Inside the Boxx

"DORKZONE 2: LE BOXX" is a new trippy montage by Dr. Phil Evans (already interviewed here) based around illustrations by Mike O'Shea, produced by Nils Svensson for the notorious skate school in Malmö, Sweden: Bryggeriet. Now, the luckiest of you might remember its premiere at the latest edition of Vladimir, and some might even remember the first "DORKZONE" (that the crew also just dropped online); this rather experimental piece remains funny and beautifully crafted regardless, and it might tickle your urges of pouring concrete and finding almost-spots, too!

"LE BOXX" is also the name of the latest skate café in Malmö and, as of recently, the whole Dorkzone universe is available under the form of material products one can already peep here.

Cyrus alert!

Well, yeah, we've got to signal a new Bennett part, and even celebrate it! And, once again, he does not mess around when it comes to skating fast and well, without having to reach stunt levels to inspire. A bit like the rest of the cast here. And that one up-and-coming old man named Lance Mountain aligns perfectly with the younglings by keeping it beyond classy on the edge of that one pool in the backyard…

Surf's up!

Well, yep, easy title to say the least, but what better way to sum up Shin Sanbongi's flow, here perfectly captured by Chris Mulhern? And what better way to kick off the week, with an overdose of style applied to less than facilitating urban landscapes? Add some Busenitz seasoning on top f it all, and you got your mandatory Monday watch!

SLO Country

"Nothing Less" is an eight-minute audiovisual gem out of Slovenia via the mind of Kristijan Stramic (with some technical help from, notably, LIVE regular Matej Počervina), that aims - and does well - at encapsulating the essence of the local skate scene, which just so appears to look super healthy. The filmmakers' approach is quite out of the ordinary, with a progressive sequencing of cinematic shots - first of urban settings, then of the Proper Skateparks locals for a mini ramp section featuring wild creative beast Deso, and cooking lessons from Tibor Rep; then, we get to catch up with national legend and underground artist Ali Jusović for some news and freestyle in between two mega ramp missions, before it all (only literally) starts going downhill thanks to some countryside bombing, notably featuring Tomaž Šantl, of Original Copy fame. The adventure finally wraps up on a D.I.Y. note, as though to remind the world that Slovenian photographer Peter Fettich just released "Rispect The Boul", a photo book assembled as a recap of years shared by fellow local humans around the local pouring of concrete and cementing of pool coping, only available in a limited edition as every copy is unique with a skated cover (sweet concept), most notably in Europe from Palomino, here!

Pale grey eyes

The Grey Area Polish homies are back, still with O.G. Kuba Kaczmarczyk (interviewed here, in company of recent Danny Fuenzalida footage) at the wheel, driving in an audiovisual style that seemingly gets more refined with every new output. In addition to the local cities of Warsaw and Kraków, and of a chunk of Ukraine, the filmmaker's territory now also expands to Croatia where he notably connected with Tom Remillard at various editions of the Vladimir Film Festival; so of course, Tom has a full part (or two) in this new production, alongside the notorious Kraków Kids (interviewed here) Kuba Brniak, Michal Zarzycki and Franek Kramarczyk, but also Eniz Fazliov, Michal Juras, Didrik Galasso or Chilian talent Juan Jose Moraga. The spots are crazy, the tricks are quality, the rain is universal: a solid bite into some healthy, savory grey fruit, as usual. Gonz & friends

Thrasher is launching a new web video series dubbed "Abnormal Communication", focused on street skateboarding pioneer Mark Gonzales who, for this first episode, is all over the place skating with his friends (well his Adidas team mates, at least...), all the while reassuring you about the Olympics being a false problem as well as your own sanity, if you ever fancied painting on your clothes. The man just won't age, and Heitor Da Silva continues his attention to the top.

Shinpei Ueno x Daidō Moriyama

A new audiovisual gem from Japanese genius Shinpei Ueno, most renowned as the head of Tightbooth (the collective responsible for the video series, "Lenz"; the third of which is on the way, and may we recommend to the more curious of you to try and get their hands on the rare "Dialogue Between Insiders"), and as an Evisen rider. For those of you who haven't kept up - Evisen is Katsumi Minami's board company - the man behind the excellent independent full-length video "Night Prowler" about a decade back - clearly a must see, if only for Deshi's and Rich Adler's equally mindblowing, respective sections...

Anyway, Shinpei seems to be rolling and has been up to collaborating with world famous Japanese photographer Daidō Moriyama. We were in the know about the Evisen board series, but unaware of the following installation! Which took place at Qucon Tokyo, Shinpei's new skate, shop and gallery space it seems like, and consisted in photo print-scented transition sessions, literally moving negative film projections and brillant skate performance by some of the local modern style icons as a means of live human interaction. Oh, and Moriyama's interpretation of our absurd little urban stunt boarding thing has to be worth one's time as well!

Béton rêves

Rémi Luciani is back with an impactful VX edit, this time bearing witness to the joined effort by Dickies and Titus, a duo that recently helped fix and improve a D.I.Y. spot in Antibes, South of France via local connexion and common representative Ben Botta. The initiative was dubbed "Concrete Dreams", and Patrick Schwarz just dropped a behind-the-scenes short about it.

Three minutes and a half of viciously quick fisheye, semi-subliminal titles and absurd concrete configurations; from the looks of it, it takes more to make Ben flinch and the same can be said about his two co-featured companions this time: Arto Bornes and Flo Tourdre, all of them shutting down the place to the point of eventual eviction.

"Lhyon"

We knew it already, the dudes at Hy don't lose no time emptying their pockets on every spot, and thanks to that optimal compartmentalizing allows them to maximize their skate time! So, give them a few days in Lyon to try out all the new spots that have seemed to be popping up there lately, and test out their collab with Volcom, and you know the result is going to be dope… No one will be able to say Matisse Banc did not give his all, and we will ask the question that keeps us awake at night: who is finally going to print a poster of Victor Campillo that we could have hanging over our bed!?
