Portals

"PORTALS" / Eric Mertz / PREMIERE

In the year two thousand and eighteen, anybody pushing their vision as far as releasing a DVD independently deserves at least a mention, if not praise depending on how refined of a work the resulting product turns out to be. Well, "Portals" is Strasbourg, France-based filmer Eric Mertz's new labor of love - some years after his original piece "Pathos", then quite the hit on the Magenta Facebook page - now available on a disk you can get from here or maybe here. Eric spent some time fine-tuning the many scenic shots, elaborate transitions (oftentimes involving Michel Gondry-esque handicrafts) and overall tones of the strong aesthetic of "Portals", resulting in a proper cinematographic effort in the footsteps of Pacôme Gabrillagues' with "Crosswalk" or resembling the "Frame By Frame" crew's stylistic touch, both major, classic independent french skate videos of the past decade. The vertebrae of "Portals" fits just right into that skeleton of artfully-documented local skate culture, strong of its fifty-minute running time, spliced into many chapters (with one specific theme for each) that Eric has been starting to share on his YouTube account, recently. Now, LIVE Skateboard Media is proud to be presenting you the fifth segment of this oneiric trip of a film, "Fantasy", along with some comments and answers from the man himself, who couldn't escape the "5 W's" treatment!
