Michal Juras / En 5!

"[…] so I don’t know what will happen in the next couple of weeks."

The release of Dust, yesterday, allowed us to catch up with Michal, and in the process learn that Live was one of his favorite website! A great reason for us to rejoice, but let's not get distracted from the major good news: Michal Juras is back, back from the troubles he was telling us in our previous conversation!

Where is that spot you skate in the edit?
The spot is near the Warsaw city center, just under the Poniatowski Bridge, by PKP Powisle Train Station. This place always had potential for a DIY spot. It’s an abandoned construction site. It has a roof, so we can use it during the winter or when it rains. Most of the spots here are open air so you can’t skate when it’s raining. One day, we all just decided to start building our DIY there and step by step it expanded.

When did you start skating again?
I started skating again in October of 2013 after a year of intense physical therapy. I got injured in NYC while on tour with Polar. During the Bum Rush the Spot Jam, I was trying to land an ollie from Fred Gall’s ice cream truck to a bank under the BQE bridge. I landed on the bank funny and seriously torn my ACL. I had an operation in October 2012 and, after that, had a year of hardcore physical therapy. That was my personal struggle to get back on the board. I feel lucky that I recovered. I’m in my physical prime, now. I can just enjoy skating again.

Why should people come to Warsaw to skate?
I think this is the one of those places that you just have to visit. We have some solid marble spots but a lot of raw shit too. That’s what I think is the most interesting. There is also a lot of beautiful women. Best part is that you only have to spend a couple of bucks to have a good time. [Laughter]

Who's part are you looking forward to the most in the Polar video?
I really respect everyone on the team. It makes me think how much effort they put into making these videos. However, the one that strikes me the most is Oski. Especially, when you see how versatile he is. Watch the video and you’ll see how much progression he’s made.

What do you have planned for the summer?I started working on a new project, a R5 video. I am planning to release it by the end of the summer. I want to go on some skate trips, maybe across the Ocean. And there is a motorcycle trip planned but we’re still working out the kinks. I do all my projects spontaneously, so I don’t know what will happen in the next couple of weeks.
