Felipe Oliveira

N'AQUA!

"N'AQUA" is the title of Felipe Oliveira's newest clip (you definitely have seen his name pop up before on LIVE - if not, feel free to revisit our interview with him about "WORLDXIT PART 3"); as of recently the author of an eponymous trap E.P. (which one can listen to here, via Black Media Skate), Felipe figured he would associate his music output with five minutes of skate footage of his own, and captured by the fantastic Fernando Denti (remember "DOPPELGANGER"?) and Guiherme Guimarães.

Inferno Verde

"INFERNO VERDE" is one nifty twenty-minute Sony VX-1000 trip to Manaus, Brazil, essentially the pulsating metropolitan heart of the Amazon, round trip and all expenses paid by Costume, the local brand LIVE hasn't been without sharing some of the former productions from before, itself led by Adonis Perfeito and his intrinsic drive to represent. To the equally-on-point platform Black Media Skate, he recites:

"« Green hell, green paradise; this is the classic Amazon where the past is common and synonymous with gigantic snakes and magic fish... » once said Glauber Rocha in his short film 'AMAZONAS, AMAZONAS' (1966).

For five years, we've been conducting ethnological studies, digging deep searching Manaus' alleys and landscapes for the summits of this 'green hell'.

A region rooted into the very old world, entranced by its situation in between water aplenty and luxurious vegetation that cracks concrete and asphalt, where alligators, jaguars and sloths fight for civility. One odd mix of creation and creatures, natural life and artificial death."

For the average skater now, this notably translates under the form of original - and crazy - spots, duly exploited by a collective of efficient and creative individuals, including Felipe OliveiraCotinz, Luis Moschioni and many more remarkable stylers. Ah and the editing and soundtrack are top notch, too!

Kmugerē

Today, LIVE is featuring even more of Felipe Oliveira (after his recent video and interview one can still check out here), as Converse just granted him a pro colorway, as the skate shoe world calls it. To celebrate, once again, we're talking a video offering by Guilherme Guimarães who managed to get three minutes of footage out of only seven days spent filming around Salvador da Bahia, and got Felipe involved as far as in the creation of the soundtrack, along with genius Fernando Denti and Pivaratu. The project appears to be of the collaborative sort also on the skate front since, amongst all of Felipe's mindbenders, can also be remarked the shine of intertwined appearances by Luis Moschioni, Alison Rosendo and Ruan Robert.

Felipe Oliveira "WORLDXIT PART 3" / PREMIERE

As promised, today on LIVE, Felipe Oliveira exposes his message via WorldXit the audiovisual way, with this self-edited compilation of his own footage as gathered throughout the years by valiant Converse Brazil videographer, Guilherme Guimarães. And the product speaks for itself; although, of course, we felt like tracking Gui down for the extra bit of commentary, below, regardless. And for more from Felipe, one can still watch his former video appearances here or go and (re-)read his interview about this very project that is "WORLDXIT PART 3" - but not just that - here!

"Filming with Felipe is always a pleasure; it never made me feel like it was a “job”. Since we started working together in 2016, we've created this type of connection that came in naturally. It’s like a bond between a filmer and a skater - something that just happens and you can't force it. What you see in this part is just the beginning of a series of hard work we're dropping throughout this year. I’m sure his name will be heard globally from now on. And he deserves it. Thank you - I love you, Felipe!" - Guilherme Guimarães

Felipe Oliveira / INTERVIEW

The Felipe Oliveira case is one of the many LIVE has been closely watching for quite the years now; a post-modern style dictated by a persistently free spirit, dozens of more or less local appearances throughout the years, a constantly boiling Instagram feed and, from now on, the head of a project of his own: WorldXit, really the direct extension of his creativity and approach to daily life via original textile-based productions, but not just that. Indeed, right now, it is audiovisual matter Felipe is just about to drop, under the form of a new self-edited "web part" (as they say): "WORLDXIT PART 3", the receptacle of footage contributed by Converse Brazil camera maestro Guilherme Guimarães then reinterpreted by the skater himself, on LIVE as soon as tomorrow. To keep you waiting, in addition to reposting this other recent clip of Felipe, here are his answers to our questions that obviously raised themselves by themselves and he didn't sleep on as one more opportunity to express himself with enthusiasm - if not a certain urgency.

LADOB

Fernando Gomes operates from Salvador in Bahia, Brazil, where amongst other personal enterprises he keeps busy documenting the local skateboarding talent, producing both moving and still images then invested in project SSAlitre, the eventual centralization, orchestration and crystalization of that very effort. So, that's the exact place "LADOB" falls into, as well as next to "LADO A" from the yesteryear in the entity's legacy (as its YouTube attests, here); this new audiovisual offering consists in fourteen minutes of H.D. skateboarding courtesy of many a LIVE regulars such as Cotinz or Felipe Oliveira (whom we will be giving you more news from real soon), but also in the usual mixed cascade of raw styles and colorful, improbable spots (including a few bump-to-bars Jimmy Lannon would unquestionably have fallen for), and the photo gallery above, by Fernando.

Fake news

If LIVE insists on shining light on Costume, the home brand of Manaus O.G.: Adonis Perfeito, and its consistent output of video productions so much, it is first and foremost because the man behind all of this is one passionate worker with no real reason for stopping (as this list of past works testifies). Today, we're talking about a teaser edit doubling up as an announcement to the world of the upcoming release of the Costume full-length video "INFERNO VERDE", sometime in the year twenty twenty; "FAKE NEWS" is the title of said short, and Brasilian platform Black Media its original broadcaster. Prepare for your jaw to drop on the dance floor out of all floors, for the span of five minutes of crispy VX-1000 on crusty, colorful spots featuring many a favorite of ours. Whatever's next is looking bright, for sure!

Ciao

Little information has been surfacing about "Ciao" besides it being a new, mastered H.D. 16:9 full-length filmed entirely in N.Y.C. by Ricardo Napoli, already the author of the 2017 "Making It Happen" which followed a similar concept. Ricardo appears to be very much into documenting not just the established locals, but also the prowess of 'skate tourists' visiting from worldwide, and developing their take on interpreting the Big Apple. His Brazilian connections run deep as in addition to Kaue Cossa having a full partFelipe Oliveira repeatedly appears, not too far from a more American, but just as exotic Connor Kammerer who comes through with over a minute of opening clips. Even certain French speaking heads such as Bastien Regeste or Quentin De Briey earned their clips! But a major link Ricardo especially seems fond of cultivating is his bond to Japan, the scene of which gets the heaviest overall representation here, with full parts for Kento Yoshioka and Ryo Motohashi.

Zonzo

In addition to the always outstandingly creative, insanely rugged, against-all-odds excellent street skateboarding from the cream of the crop of Brazilian skateboarding, what we appreciate in Murilo Romão's frequent productions (the former ones we've introduced to you before, here) is his will, as a true filmmaker, to push the envelope of the medium of the skate video, and the spectrum of its language.

His works along with his collective Flanantes transcends the documentation of hard-hitting urban stunts (amongst other various reinterpretations of apparently quite hostile settings), by always placing it at the core of a given, coherent context.

This time, it is the body of work of Italian architect Francesco Careri that caught his attention for long enough that he articulated his whole new full-length film around an idea that we'll let him go in depth about, below:

Let's put this Easter Sunday to good use and ponder the old adage that states that, if skateboarding is all about having fun with your friends, if it ever gets serious, the Brazilians always win at it… Maybe because they have a better understanding of pleasure? Proof here in images, on the street side of things, far far away from future Olympian stadiums…

Felipe Alert!

Heading out to Latin America, now, with a fine selection of the Cons heads, and they sure as hell tackle it all in style, as those guys have gotten us used to! Let's salute our personal favorite Felipe Oliveira, that plays home, here, but mostly plays to his very own tune, as he always does…
