CJ Kelly

Seven

LIVE has brought them up on quite a few occasions before: Deep Dish is the Chicago-based collective with a knack for independent production, be it in paper or video form. Today, they are back (although they really never left) with "Seven" - not the remake of the David Fincher movie one would understandably expect, but the seventh installment in their video series, which makes at least just as much sense. Given that Mark Dunning, guilty of the video editing tasks as usual, recently had to relocate to the East Coast due to work, the local Jon Schmoldt is the one who came through with stacking most of the Loop tapes - and that was all in between knee injuries. Eventually, the process took a whole pair of years, the final product came out just in time for the seventh anniversary of the first Deep Dish video and zine, Brett Weinstein, CJ Kelly and the always surprising, never-not-playful Steffen Watts earned themselves full sections, Sean Cullen got his revenge and the most gourmet gourmandizers of you might even catch a taste of Hopps in the recipe, as it turns out Jahmal Williams and Dustin Eggeling both did just that - hopped... - on the party.

Chi-town

We have been discussing the Chicago case, via the Deep Dish edits, for quite a bit, now, but this time, it is the Theories colleagues that went there to see what all the fuss was about, leaded by the fearless Josh Stewart… Un-surprisingly enough, our local hero, Brett Weinstein, steals the show by demonstrating an inherent ability at tackling shitty spots, usually after getting up from harsh slams. An edit you should, and will, watch over and over through the week-end, and more!

The ill shit…

This is not the first time we will praise the Deep Dish heads, and most likely not the last, and once again these guys demonstrate that their city of Chicago is full of treasures –at various levels of rust– but above all else that they know what to do with it , from the ledge combos of Steffen Watts that would make a Paul Shier proud to the always punchy lines of Brett Weinstein. One of the best edits to have dropped on the internets for quite some time now. For real.

"No Respect"

Once again, the Deep Dish hit hard, real hard, even… With that raw, raw street we know them for, adding a couple new faces, like that Justin Henry we always tell you about, an improbable Steffen Watts from start to the end of his part, all culminating with Brett Weinstein fusing all Chicago influences to make it into his own twopointzero version… That full-length is what you would need to kick start the week, but it could help you go through the winter, too! And the footage of the gang switching from multiple layers of winter puff to sweaty shorts will also remind you of what matter to them, just as much as it does to you: the crew! Thank you, Deep Dish for the wake-up slap…

Deep Dish "No Respect" / PREMIERE

You already know the Deep Dish crew, aiming straight from Chicago, that has been putting Chi Town on the map, but not only, as they're never afraid to travel and meet other scenes in include them all in their videos. Mark Dunning and John Schmoldt are already working on their fourth opus, that should be more centered around the Midwest, with Steffen Watts, Brett Weinstein, Matt Nordness, Nico Rizzo and the rest as the main line-up. They are announcing it for spring, and for now are offering us a promo as a LIVE exclusive, that notably sees that famous double bank spot in a parking garage getting murdered!
