Amigos

What LIVE is celebrating with you today is no less than the official upload (courtesy of DLXSF) of "AMIGOS", the Forties Clothing video originally released in 1995.

Forties was Tommy Guerrero's garment company - under Deluxe - nurtured by the talents and legacies of many a San Francisco skate legends at their peak; in particular, the ones who tended to be more into speed, feels and amplitude, still paving the way for the original Stereo's trademark image, as opposed to the technical juggling and copious ledge innovations then still reigning supreme over the bricks of the classic Justin Herman Plaza, also known as the Embarco...

Here, the residential areas - and their hills - are the focus, only for the entire City to turn into a playground dominated with style (that era of Ethan Fowler was quite something else...), all paired up with experimentation on the visual side but also as far as the soundtrack goes, marking Tommy Guerrero's earliest (recorded) adventures into jazz - a whole new direction when compared to his former punk sessions as the bass player in Free Beer - contemporarily to other iconic bands such as Los Olvidados, McRad or Drunk Injuns, just to name a few. Those very new trackable beginnings would then turn out to be what motivated Thomas Campbell to have Tommy record his first album on Galaxia Records : "LOOSE GROOVES & BASTARD BLUES"...

So the question remains: relaunch, no relaunch? Tough to say as of now, given the impact of the current context on the economy worldwide. But either way, as of now, we do get to watch those fifteen minutes on loop and in pristine quality - a pre-solo sesh win-win!

"CLOSURE"

When Dan Wolfe himself uploads "CLOSURE", the legendary full-length video recap of his filmmaking career - between 1993 and 2003, precisely - with the best clips he ever filmed for classic releases such as "EASTERN EXPOSURE" and "REAL TO REEL" paired up with a lot of never-before-seen footage, with a healthy dose of S.F. in the mix as well, in the original quality and even clickable chapters, every man's quarantine is bound to suddenly get a lot smoother!

We'll also take the opportunity to link to the man's interview by Eric Swisher of Chrome Ball Incident, from the yesteryear. What doesn't kill you makes you stronger, and doses of culture can only be beneficial to one's immune system!

Reclaim the streets

Join in for a not so bucolic cruise around the streets of San Francisco, as seen through the eyes of the skaters that most likely experience it more than their average neighbor, and also a demonstration of what it is to be a skateboarder (not just being skateboarding, surprisingly enough…) by that one Julien Stranger guy. We will have a Monday test on gentrification of the city, please do your own researches this week-end!

Meeting… Todd Francis!

Another rarely sung hero of skateboarding culture, this man is responsible for some of your favorite graphics over the years… Hell, you might even have a tattoo of one, somewhere on your body! We sent him the best interlocutor we could think of: Monsieur Bourne.Todd Francis has come up and/or drawn many of the graphics you may have been holding dearly over the years… And he hasn't slowed down with time. The release of Look Away, the book dedicated to his work gave us the chance to send his way an old colleague and friend.

O.G.

Like all things related to Mark Gonzales, this 2001 part was surrounded by various legends, one of them being that the soundtrack was switched last minute, replacing Morrisey by Mark himself, or his poetry interpreted by Tommy Guerrero, the whole thing working actually perfectly… Well, the rumor was true, and the original edit is now available! The best thing, end of the day, is that these three minutes are some of his all time best… Enjoy them again! Mark Gonzales x Morrisey = #veryrare

Summer school

This post might be aimed at the younglings' amongst you –but then again, maybe not– since it wants to introduce you to a man you might have heard the name (if you listen to the elders mumble at the park), or have read the name under a board (most likely owned by an old man)… You might have wondered who was that Julien Stranger, since you have seen a photo of him, less again a web part… Well, on top on being the man at Anti Hero, which would be an achievement already, Julien also is the definition of the aggressive skater with style, so much style.
