This in-depth piece of journalism by the always on point Quartersnacks reminds us of two facts… One, Los Angeles, depite its superficy coming with an insane aount of the bits and pieces that make a city might not be the street skating paradise we all secretly dream of when gazing at our local waxed curb! That, and the fact that Mister Van Engelen is one hell of a psyshopath, and the world is lucky he decided to channel his inner tenacity via a skateboard, and not a less positive activity!
For this Sunday's brunch, it's one savant cocktail of savors that awaits you right now under the form of this edit by legendary N.Y.C. skate filmmaker R.B. Umali (yes, the one behind "MIXTAPE" for a golden-era Zoo York, amongst many other works). As its title suggests, we're talking a retrospective of footage collected throughout the decades and video productions, nowhere but at the mythical skate spot of Brooklyn Banks. One that just so happens to be under quite the imminent threat of destruction, by the way - a decision one can still help oppose via this petition right here. Anyway, in the silly hypothesis that such a landmark would need a video resume of sorts to certify its cultural importance to the masses, then this one would have to be it, featuring a who's who of some of the most classic East Coast styles and pretty much a compilation of the most memorable moves and moments ever spent on those bricks. Just look at that roster!
When Dan Wolfe himself uploads "CLOSURE", the legendary full-length video recap of his filmmaking career - between 1993 and 2003, precisely - with the best clips he ever filmed for classic releases such as "EASTERN EXPOSURE" and "REAL TO REEL" paired up with a lot of never-before-seen footage, with a healthy dose of S.F. in the mix as well, in the original quality and even clickable chapters, every man's quarantine is bound to suddenly get a lot smoother!
Well, here's a little summer surprise from the F.A. camp, with the older cats having fun in L.A. while the younglings are adventuring in Europe, from Madrid to Berlin, notably, with a Louie Lopez visibly excited to be here, and a Sage full of his usual pop. Yes, those ten minutes are exactly what you needed to shake off the heat!
The Elijah Berle Pro Shoe is a new model now available from Vans that's got everything to do with the eponymous skateboarder. For those who need to catch up, Elijah also recently made the switch from Chocolate Skateboards to Fucking Awesome, Jason Dill and Anthony Van Engelen's company, and appeared in the latest Supreme video (always instant classics, regardless of one's taste), despite having been incapacitated for a while by injuries. A hectic schedule Elijah himself was nice enough to find some time to cover for us, for you, below!
On Friday, Greg Hunt launched his first photography book in NYC, via the young Paradigm Publishing, with one hell of a theme, a friend of twenty years or so: Jason Dill! The occasion was too good to pass, to not question him about his lesser known passion for images that are not moving…
Some "Pussy Gangster" extras? Who's gonna say "no", especially when it is good stuff! Excellent stuff, even, when you talk about Sage's trick at the La Défense bank… Proof that well applied pop can open new worlds!
