Jimmy Lannon

Magenta in L.A.

Magenta Skateboards and their classic "capsule" format picked the turn of fall as the most strategic moment to come back to inject some extra sunshine into your life via this new eight-minute edit of Los Angeles footage featuring Leo Valls, Jimmy Lannon, Jesse Narvaez, Ben Gore and friends; now if night footage happens to be your thing then no sweat to be spent as they've got you covered there too. Their website has this accompanying article featuring photos by Ben Gore and Wolfgang Brandt (who also appears in the video); everything was filmed by Marshall Nicholson with some contributions courtesy of Chris Thiessen (previously interviewed by LIVE here); and for more Jesse Narvaez and Ben Gore, make sure not to miss the new Loophole edit in collaboration with FTC, by Zach Chamberlin, here!

PREMIERE / "Hot Plate" / Marshall Nicholson

It is no less than six years that Marshall Nicholson spent restlessly working on his second independent, full-length skate video (after "FEED YOUR HEAD", and shorter clips such as "JIVE"): "HOT PLATE", a few parts from which had already found their respective ways online before - notably via Theories of Atlantis and Vague Skate Mag. Talking Theories, they are still hosting this interview with Marshall by Mike Wine where the approach for, and process behind the piece were discussed in length; Vague, on their end, had Dom Henry take over the interrogation room, which resulted in even more commentary from the author.

Now, Marshall is a full-time father and still undertaking new projects, be it video-wise or not as he's also been busy managing Palms Skateshop; and yet in spite of such an intense schedule, today, he's delivering and serving us the full "HOT PLATE" - now watchable in one shot fired from Fort Myers, Florida but also, by extension, N.Y.C., Baltimore, Chattanooga and Tokyo. A whole universal story wrapped up within exactly forty-two VX-1000-driven minutes; Douglas Adams himself never was this correct at estimating the meaning of life.

Magenta is ten!

With the year twenty twenty comes, amongst many other complete revolutions, the tenth anniversary of France's top plank (and general qualitative artefact) purveyors: Magenta Skateboards, and of their progressive - under every sense of the term - contribution to skateboarding's ever-so-new world order, like a happenstance cultural coup d'état that would have taken the whole past decade by storm. Still the brainchild of Paris-based artist Soy Panday and of brotherly duo Vivien and Jean Feil, Magenta just marked the occasion by appropriately dropping an anniversary-themed capsule (first come, first serve), and also by catching up with Sylvain Robineau again for the span of this short film: "STILL IN BUSINESS", featuring a cast of family members. You might remember Sylvain's works: "WHICH IS TO BE THE MASTER?" and "PARISIEN", amongst many other personal pieces one can retrace the existence of on Dailymotion, for instance.

Also on the menu, and the cake atop of the cherry: this "10 YEARS MIXTAPE" consisting in, well, a sugar-filled recap of the brand's video offering ever since its inception, cooked by Manolo's Tapes, complemented by an exclusive article on the Magenta website here, and even by a brand new Soy Panday interview by Matt Broadley for Parade World, here - all as to better get you ready for the next decade to come!

Storia Italiana

Ten new minutes of Magenta-tinted goodness via the master VX-1000 skills of the craft's Michaelangelo: Zach Chamberlin, are nothing to turn down. And in this case, we're talking footage of most of the crew's holidays in Milan, Italy (making for the perfect transition with René Olivo's brand new documentary on the local scene), a city that's essentially become their secondary residency after many a stay there this year - in between random vagrancies to destinations such as Naples or Rome.

This video drops marks the simultaneous one of the brand's new seasonal collection, but also the official inclusion of Milanese youngster Ruben Spelta to its roster; an occasion for which Paris seemed to be on his radar a lot - you'll see! A full recap of those fun times punctuated by photos snapped by the whole crew on disposable cameras can be found on the Magenta website, here !

Water stream rock smashing fist

Remember Stephen Buggica? The independent filmmaker from Florida LIVE interviewed a little while back about his full-length project "MIXTAPE vol. 3", in the Shaqueefa series. At the time, he was already thinking of launching his own thing production-wise and that's exactly what he's been up to since, under the moniker Busted Mic. One can peep his two former clips here, and also this very new one: a brand new Jimmy Lannon part, only proving that the Floating Don is still way up there at taoist levels, even after years of setting consecutive bump-to-bar world records and repping Magenta on his local turf like one proud lion that would commute from prey to prey in switch stance more often than not.

Florida represent!

In case you were not hot enough, here is a little pocket of scorching Florida air… With what looks like about 87% of humidity. So, yes, this is gonna make you sweat, but all for the right reasons, and less than them, anyway!

Aquatic Spirit

A "Spirit Quest" section is bound to always have the same impact at first watch: first one gets confused by the frenetic pictures their eyes are resting on. Then, everything gradually becomes coherent and in the end, culminates as a sum that's incredibly pleasant to watch. And if this video looks like no other, it’s due to Colin Read's mind brimming with creativity, behind the lens. Everything is precisely thought out, and designed to hit hard thanks to a combo of filming, editing and spot selection taken to new heights. The resulting piece is so inspiring, just watching it could spark off vocations!

Mare Nostrum

Let's head out South with the Magenta heads! And what a more suiting destination for the crew (here in full effect!) than Marseille? A gold mine of non-spots located hillside for the most part that once were neglected even by the locals and are now way more acceptable and therefore in use… Off course, Ben Gore would feel right at home, no matter how steep the incline might get, but Masaki Ui also get his fare share of adrenalin in this one… Second part of the trip is the more beaten path of Valencia, but from the all too smooth pop of Jimmy Lannon to the Günes özdogan featuring, you are in for many surprises. Yes, this is some great, great Magenta offering, all thanks to Josh Roberts talents, also!

Salam

Where the Magenta heads try to bring back together two worlds by slapping David Axelrod's Christian Mass to their footage from a recent visit to Dubai and Abu Dhabi. Set the debate of the actual name of God (if you belive he/she exists), and you got a strong edit, despite the grueling heat you can actually feel!

Criss-Cross

A great idea from our friends at Push Periodical, with this Zach Chamberlin edit compiling the best possible way the footie from all the inanimate images seen in the latest issue of the magazine! Be ready for a casting of more or less all our (and your) favorites!

Spirit animals

A remix of the best footie the Magenta riders had in Spirit Quest? That's right, it here for you! And if you do not own the full-length in your collection, you are missing out!

Toujours Paris

It does look better less pixelated, doesn't it?
