PREMIERE / "Hot Plate" / Marshall Nicholson

It is no less than six years that Marshall Nicholson spent restlessly working on his second independent, full-length skate video (after "FEED YOUR HEAD", and shorter clips such as "JIVE"): "HOT PLATE", a few parts from which had already found their respective ways online before - notably via Theories of Atlantis and Vague Skate Mag. Talking Theories, they are still hosting this interview with Marshall by Mike Wine where the approach for, and process behind the piece were discussed in length; Vague, on their end, had Dom Henry take over the interrogation room, which resulted in even more commentary from the author.

Now, Marshall is a full-time father and still undertaking new projects, be it video-wise or not as he's also been busy managing Palms Skateshop; and yet in spite of such an intense schedule, today, he's delivering and serving us the full "HOT PLATE" - now watchable in one shot fired from Fort Myers, Florida but also, by extension, N.Y.C., Baltimore, Chattanooga and Tokyo. A whole universal story wrapped up within exactly forty-two VX-1000-driven minutes; Douglas Adams himself never was this correct at estimating the meaning of life.

Take Five (Pushes)

Push Periodical, the independent, print photography-oriented skate mag orchestrated by legendary photographer from the U.K. Richard Hart (interviewed by LIVE here), celebrates its five years of existence (only? already?) as a petite entreprise with "5", an exclusive edit signed by just-as-legendary Sony VX-1000 wizard Zach Chamberlin which revisits a past half-of-a-decade mostly spent on the road - or when the San Francisco hills decide to lead you somewhere in between Portugal and Hungary... On the program: nearly forty skaters documented throughout that timespan, whose most footage has found a home in different productions in the meantime and yet, they manage to take a whole new flavo(u)r here - which isn't that surprising as Rich can definitely school anyone on how clementines really make camembert come alive, and that's in spite of all their preconceived notions. Behind the camera, in addition to Zach: Colin Read, Romain Batard, Chris Thiessen, Grant Yasura... And Dan Wolfe, for the final tribute to Keith Hufnagel - of course. The soundtrack is by a longtime friend of Richard's: Brigid Dawson.

Magenta is ten!

With the year twenty twenty comes, amongst many other complete revolutions, the tenth anniversary of France's top plank (and general qualitative artefact) purveyors: Magenta Skateboards, and of their progressive - under every sense of the term - contribution to skateboarding's ever-so-new world order, like a happenstance cultural coup d'état that would have taken the whole past decade by storm. Still the brainchild of Paris-based artist Soy Panday and of brotherly duo Vivien and Jean Feil, Magenta just marked the occasion by appropriately dropping an anniversary-themed capsule (first come, first serve), and also by catching up with Sylvain Robineau again for the span of this short film: "STILL IN BUSINESS", featuring a cast of family members. You might remember Sylvain's works: "WHICH IS TO BE THE MASTER?" and "PARISIEN", amongst many other personal pieces one can retrace the existence of on Dailymotion, for instance.

Also on the menu, and the cake atop of the cherry: this "10 YEARS MIXTAPE" consisting in, well, a sugar-filled recap of the brand's video offering ever since its inception, cooked by Manolo's Tapes, complemented by an exclusive article on the Magenta website here, and even by a brand new Soy Panday interview by Matt Broadley for Parade World, here - all as to better get you ready for the next decade to come!

Magenta "Balade" / Meeting... Vivien Feil!

Finally on your screens, for you to watch no sooner than right now, right here: the new Magenta full-length, "Balade", prominently filmed in the United States of America but not exclusively. The resulting mix is a twenty-minute long upbeat edit - perfect to watch before skating - that was put together pretty spontaneously, actually. You know how LIVE works by now: the opportunity was too great not to try and ask the busy Vivien Feil (one of the founding fathers of the brand, besides offspring duties of a more organic type) what's up and surprise, he did manage to find the time to come through with answers aplenty for you to absorb alongside the video, making for a solid package we are stoked to present you today!

The vibe about skating rocks

Let's recognize here, once again, the rare talent of Zach Lyons to turn any vaguely angular thingy into a spot, and often more than that… To the point where he could probably transform a pebble and two twigs into a line that would actually look original and natural. And that is a talent in itself: being classy without ever falling into the circus act, where most would never find an interesting thing to do. Oh, and if you are young enough that the title reference is lost on you, well, you definitively want to head this way…

Salam

Where the Magenta heads try to bring back together two worlds by slapping David Axelrod's Christian Mass to their footage from a recent visit to Dubai and Abu Dhabi. Set the debate of the actual name of God (if you belive he/she exists), and you got a strong edit, despite the grueling heat you can actually feel!

Spirit animals

A remix of the best footie the Magenta riders had in Spirit Quest? That's right, it here for you! And if you do not own the full-length in your collection, you are missing out!

Mo' cruise, mo' fun!

Well, they are quite on it these days, at Magenta, aren't they!? One could not complain about it, especially when they offer us a juicy bonus to their recent Just Cruise… They all here, on their home turf of Bordeaux, and this does not tickle your fancy, well, we don't know what could!

Northern City

Our buddies from The Northern Co. just sent some news from their most recent NYC escapade, and by looking at their clothes, it was still summer then, which allowed them to skate with many, locals or tourists… Yep, good stuff, street stuff, great street skating, as you would expect from them!

Charles' tip: La Capsule Magenta - UK

"Please remember they drive on the left lane over there!" Damn, Ben Gore just feels at home on any streets, doesn't he?

Rico, riquisimo!

Considering the weird monsoon period Europe is going through right now, this Puerto Rico trips with the good heads from Coalatree seems about perfectly timed! Enjoy!

The silent assassin

We had introduced you to Koichiro, at the very beginning of Live, just because he he is amongst those finally rare cases of skaters actually developing their own approach… His, of course, finds a home under the "Quick Feet" roof, but also dabs heavily into the "Impossible Carve" , thanks to super loose trucks but also to a unbelievable board control. Folklore has it that the S shaped double ledge took him a few nights, to achieve the perfect turn… This is from Lenz 2, a video you should really own!
