DIY DIG / Beaulieu

No need to think that long about it before stating –without fearing getting denied by anyone– that the DIY phenomenon might be the embodiment of skateboarding spirit (if there is one), in the sense that "making do with what you got" is the reality we all deal with, no matter where we happen to be on this planet. In order to get you exposed to it our very own way, we picked up two completely different projects in their history and form, to tell you about it, but also inspire. Thanks to the kind support of Vans, we managed to help each spot to grow a little, and the locals hands to get even dirtier… Not that they really need an extra push… This first episode is taking us to Beaulieu, a quiet corner of South of France, where an abandoned lot has been messed with since 1998, in good harmony with local authorities, and has had time to become a rallying point for all perfectly unperfected transitions lovers. Here is a new chapter of their adventure…

The Parody

It is always great to hear from Alex Marco… Just like we love hearing about what's up in Spain, especially the way he puts it together: we just want more! This new edit does starts as a tongue in cheek (well done) pastiche of Cherry, but quickly stirs away from that to focus on a cast of new faces (at least for us) that are making Spanish skateboarding leap into the future. Amazing spots, and an all-around love for ledges: the Iberian bases are covered, but with a new twist!

When skate rock goes wrong…

Miles of copings shredded to dust all around the world… And only one question remaining in the end: who the hell decided, about twenty years ago, that "Transition skating needs bad metal, bro!!!"!??

Going up the country

Most likely one of the best video production trying to "break out of the formula" done lately, if not in a long time… All this deep, deep in British soil, way far from the urban spots and everything city we love, here. But, this is what skating is all about: making do with what you got, wherever that might be. A perfect Sunday morning viewing, for sure!

Bowlrider!

Yep, it is Ishod…

Feel good movie…

This not a scoop of any kind anymore, but, in 2016, Canada is about (believe it or not!) the coolest country in the world, when it comes to the toughest crowd on this planet: skaters… This quite unbelievable moment of mankind history will most likely be studied, and maybe even explained, at some point, and one of the main scientific artifacts pulled apart then will be this new full-length from a Vancouver skateshop. Sure it has been known for impeccable taste since day one, but here, it mainly has help grow a new generation to the perfect combination of messing around and the skating you really want to see, mostly performed on aggregated gravel, a thing they seem to call sidewalks there… A must-watch, a must-rewatch, and way more!

Street surfing

Might be the perma-shorts, but Jonas Skrøder really does have a little "surfy" flavor to his all-terrain approach… Well, kind of like a Surfing Viking approach… And that's a beautiful thing!

The Magic Number

The classic spots, the other ones hidden in back alleys, the old timers, the fresh faces, the locs and the tourists: they all here! Paris, Berlin and London are three cities more than rich in character, and this is what the De Paris Yearbook crew has been pushing on us for a couple years now, and their latest video production is in the direct logic of this editorial line. But, let's not forget that De Paris, Aus Berlin and Of London are –before all– books you will be more than happy to find on your shelves in a few years!

Rosebud

Ludovic Azémar is back, with the homies, and from the quite rare nowadays Charles Collet to the always street Joseph Biais, he has something for all of us. This is is also for the day Vincent Coupeau will step on his board again, soon!

Missing In Action?

Is Chet lost? Maybe… Unless he actually found himself, on the roads, on the trails… The ones leading to the next transition to trowel, the next coping to make scream. And, if he's enjoying it, we get to love too!

Vacation

Hey, how about a healthy mix of transitions of all kinds, for a change!?

Young Japhey has gained inches and confidence! A super versatile part from the Loophole project, perfect to kick-start a great week-end!
